Axis Mundi: The Three-Layered Universe

This graduation project explores the concept of Axis Mundi through the three-layered universe model, consisting of the upper world, the earthly realm and the underworld. The project focuses on the symbolic connection between these three cosmic layers and the central axis that unites them. This vertical structure is reinterpreted through contemporary textile design, using composition, repetition, rhythm and layered visual elements to represent transition, balance and continuity between different realms. By translating an ancient cosmological model into a contemporary design language, the project creates a visual relationship between mythology, space and textile surfaces.
